Options, there are so many options!

There are always the obvious choices of job searching for different positions. When a lot of job seekers start looking for different jobs that are available in the cannabis industry they sometimes forget all the options they have. When I consult with anyone seeking a job I always encourage them to think outside the box and to make sure to highlight talents they may have. This opens so many more options for the average job-seeker! Budtenders, receptionists, growers, processors, and trimmers aren’t the only jobs to consider. These jobs make up a huge amount of the positions that may be available but, once again, not the only option. There are a lot of businesses that support grows, processors, and dispensaries.

Ancillary businesses are businesses that are necessary to support another business.

So when you start thinking of all the things a cannabis business can need, it can become extensive, quickly. Regulation restrictions and requirements add to the costs and, therefore, jobs that the cannabis industry encompasses. There are things like packaging supplies, marketing companies or individuals, educational services or products, and computer products or services, just to name a few more options for jobs to think about. If you have a degree, training or are skilled at any of these fields you can very well have a chance of doing something with those skills. Some of the other fields that are needed are cannabis-friendly professionals. Electricians, plumbers, contractors, real estate agents, and security are a few more directions job seekers could consider.

These are all positions that need to be filled, regularly, especially if you have knowledge!

In one of my more recent pieces, I spoke about adaptability being the top skill you should have to be successful in the cannabis industry. Part of the reason is that cannabis businesses need so many different ancillary businesses to operate. But, if an employee can do some of the tasks a cannabis business might pay someone else to do, then you can make yourself more valuable. While also helping to eliminate extra expenses that the cannabis business has to incur. Some may think that shouldn’t be a concern of an employee but the truth is, it actually is. This is why; the cannabis business provides you a job. Hopefully, a job that pays you well and that you enjoy. So helping that company helps you in the long run. Since I’m sure the goal is to stay around awhile, providing the employee with a job for a long period of time. Now you should be trained if required by law to be able to perform the task they ask.

Brand new companies are started all the time to support all the major cannabis businesses. Make sure to keep your options open. Figure out who these companies are and apply with them also. Highlighting your special skills or talents on your resume may put you closer to the top of the applicants when applying to the more common cannabis companies like dispensaries.

Get out there and make your cannabis job dreams come true!
