Horror and Cannabis with Hancock Art

Culture Divine Independence Features Lifestyle

by Rayne Graham

Meet Hancock, he is the creative mind and talent behind this month’s front cover artwork. I had the opportunity to sit and chat with him for a minute about what he does and his passion for it all. After our talk, I can say with confidence that he has a unique style all his own as well as a passion for not only creating his art but for also being able to reach members of the cannabis community through his pieces.

When he was a child, Hancock convinced himself that he could do one of two things in life to gain the attention he wanted so badly. The first, was to pick up a pencil and paper and start drawing. The second, was to pick up a pick and start strumming some amazing solos on a guitar. Well, we obviously know which one of those things he picked up but if you ask him, he will tell you, “I am happy I stuck with art.” He would also watch hours and hours of Ren and Stimpy just so he could pause the show, grab a pencil and paper, and practice his hand at sketching his favorite cartoon characters.

At 17, you would have been able to find Hancock at frontier city, Six Flags Over Texas, or Hurricane Harbor drawing caricatures and spray-painting body art. While he was doing this, he had the chance to gain a close friendship with his managers Dave Curd and Eric Sandhop who also happen to be video game creators. Thus, the process of learning digital art took form and he has created it into what we now enjoy seeing today through his pieces. From that point, his art career took off with a jolt! You can find his art on an animated Ozarka commercial, the back of a cool fantasy novel, on social media for different clients, and doing shows for local charity events. Infact he even stated, “Most of the shows I do always go to some sort of Charity to give back to the community.”

Before SQ788 passed, Hancock stuck to the art of Horror, let me tell you for this Halloween girl, that was music to my ears! But when 788 passed, he decided to mix his love for horror and cannabis all into a unique category of its own. Even though he has a passion for character art, he is quick to tell you with a smile and laugh, “I stay away from kid stuff, my stuff is more for childish adults.” His other focus is making is art look like it was drawn with a paper and pencil even though he is creating it all digitally. He wanted to do what was better for the environment and using paper, pencils, and paint were not the right roads to get there.

Check out some of his doodles on this page once you are done imprinting the art from the cover into your creative brain. Then, head over to his Instagram page @Hancockcartoons and dive deeper into the realm of Horror Cannabis Art and be sure to let Hancock know what you think!
