The next thing is coming and you should be totally prepared. You just don’t know what it is…

There was a time while on a family vacation I was surprised by the fact that one of those vacation days were to be device restricted. I was quite pissed at the time. I had things to do. I quickly realized, after a few day drinks, those things were to spend time with loved ones and enjoy the time away.

Remember being a kid and all of the grown ups would ask you what you wanted to be when you grew up? Yeah. We do that don’t we…

You can’t expect a genuine authentic answer to that question from an adult. How are we to expect that from a child?

I get it. We need for our children to set goals. We want people to understand that moving in a forward motion toward something feels like progress. Isn’t that idea just a way of pleasing ourselves and not really from the point-of-view of the person in question?

All of the cliche’ horseturdiness comes to mind… “the grass is greener” “something big is on the horizon”… There’s always something to move us forward right? It’s extremely hard to find content in our world.

What if we did this on a more micro-scale and on a regular basis? Really enjoy your morning coffee. Take in that medicine that replenishes you and truly listen to what yourself has to say. Absorb the music in the car and enjoy the feeling of the seat. The purr of the engine. Truly grasp what is around you. Do not think about tomorrow.

A lot of us, including myself, seem to be struggling a bit with anxiety and what is next to come.

Take a minute and stop wondering what you are going to be when you grow up.
