The Cannabis industry is growing and booming! It’s an essential business and though we are seeing some layoffs and closures- the green rush is still- the green rush. This means JOBS! The Motley Fool predicted that between 2018 and 2023, the legal Cannabis industry will triple in revenue, reaching $30B. This was before Coronavirus made Cannabis essential.
Indeed reported triple-digit growth in job postings since 2017. New Frontier Data found that the legal cannabis market in the U.S will create about 300K jobs by 2020.
For those seeking a career change- these Cannabis careers are booming:

- · Cannabis Grower/ Cultivator
- · Bud trimmer
- · Budtender
- · Extraction Technician
So, this week, my goal is to wear my Human Resources and resume writing hat and help you craft a resume that will get the attention of the recruiter and/or hiring manager. We all need a little help in this very new industry and I am here to help! This piece focuses on job title: Budtender. Example of soft skills from a Budtender job posting that should be discussed/mentioned in your resume and/or cover letter:
Trustworthy, dependable, reliable, detail-oriented, punctual, and hard-working.
Your qualifications summary should discuss these soft skills. Here’s an example:
Innovative Customer Service Specialist, recognized as a customer-centric professional by peers and supervisors. Provider of excellent customer experiences that are driven by trust, dependability, and reliability. Proven track record of success regarding self-motivation, attendance/ punctuality, and compliance.
Responsibilities of the job may look like:
Greet and welcome customers, answer questions regarding cannabis products and advising customers on products based on their needs, budget, etc.
Your resume should highlight your experience, as related to these responsibilities. For those with cashier, sales associate, and/or customer service representative experience- this is an easy task. Most of these positions include the same responsibilities.
When describing your past experience, you might use:
helped customers with their purchases, provided information about merchandise on display, assisted customers to find affordable products- you are saying the same thing as the job post- just using different words.
It’s best to use words in the job description or as close as possible if the experience relates. No lying- just editing to align your experience with how the job posting describes it.
